About Us
Remember when clowns were funny? Modine does! Modine the Clown has entertained children and families for over 25 years.
She began her career by performing in restaurants, at birthday parties, the Inaugural Ball,
and other local events. From there she went on to perform with Circus Kirk,
Martin and Downs Circus of Canada, The Royal Hanneford Circus, and Circus Vargas.
She returned to Northern Virginia where she continues to perform as a family entertainer.
Modine the Clown's (Marsha's) clown education includes training
from Northern Virginia Community College,
participation in Clown Camp sponsored by the University of Wisconsin,
Lacrosse,
the International Association of Balloon Artists Conference, Advanced
Studies in the
Art of Clowning, KIDabra International conferences, Twist & Shout Balloon Conventions, Balloon and Magic
Mania, and
Airigami University. Marsha also studied Eccentric Performing with
Avner Eisenberg (Avner the Eccentric) at the Celebration Barn in Maine.
She is a member of KIDabra International, the World Clown
Association, Balloon Click and Balloon Headquarters.
Marsha
has a serious side too. She is a licensed clinical social worker
serving hospice patients and their families. Her formal education
includes a Bachelor of Arts in English from Virginia Tech,
a Master of Divinity from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania,
and a Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University.
We offer standard, deluxe, and premium packages for birthday parties. Please see our Parties page.
For other events we work with you to select the activities and skills that best enhance your event. We can meet and greet your guests, make balloon animals or paint faces, do a little juggling (very little!), stilt walking, or just plain ol' Clowning Around. Modine the Clown has been entertaining children and families since 1975 so you get a well seasoned performer.
What area to you serve?
We serve primarily the Northern Virginia and Metro D.C. area, including parts of Maryland. Out of area events are evaluated on an individual basis.
What age makes the best audience for your clown?
Children between 3 and 9 years old are our best audience. They have the most fun when they're in a group where all the kids are approximately the same age. That way they all "get it." What's funny to pre-school aged children often isn't funny to 8 or 9 year olds, and what's magical to the older kids goes over the heads of the little ones.
Do you entertain adults?
All our entertainment is clean family fun. We do our best to include bits that will amuse the adults but do not provide any "adult only" programs.
If we run late can you start late?
The time you requested is reserved especially for you. We respect your time and make every effort to help you have a successful party. We extend this respect to all of our clients, and since we often have back to back appointments we are unable to stay late. It is always our intent to start on time and end on time.
